This year 2009 marks the 31st anniversary that Goldrush has been together with most of the original members still performing. Through the years Goldrush has entertained audiences from Washington, D.C. to Florida with variety music from Carolina Beach music classics, country, oldies to rock and roll.
Through the years they have shared the stage with such greats as Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Percy Sledge and more.
The band members all grew up in the Lumberton, North Carolina area and recorded their first single, "Those Golden Days," at the now famous Music Mill in Nashville, Tennessee in 1981.
"Sugar Darlin" has also reached the Top 10 which was written by keyboard player John Hodges. Needing a deep bass voice for the song, Goldrush got a good friend and a great artist, Bobby Smith, of the "Poor Souls" to do the lead vocal.
Goldrush members are:
Frankie Walters - Lead Vocals
Greg Malinsky - Lead guitar/Vocals
John Hodges - Keyboards/Vocals
Dale Phillips - Drums/Vocals
Maurice Leggett - Bass/Lights/Sound
Dixon Britt - Backup Vocals
The band also recorded a remake of "Unchained Melody" with Frankie Walters on lead vocals. The song was released on the "Gettin Ready for Showtime" CD from KHP Music.
As one of the few groups asked to perform at the 1st Annual Beach Music Awards in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, it's no wonder why they are still in demand today for beach music events with country clubs and weddings being their speciality.
Someone recently said that the Goldrush popularity as a variety band could easily be summed up by the fact that, "They've had time to get it right!"
